Active ingredient of Ascal (carbasalatum)
Dear Sir or Madam
I am a physician in Australia. A dutch lady came to see me asking for a script for this drug. Unfortunately we do not have this on the market and I planned to prescribe low dose aspirin for her instead - until she returns to Holland. Can you please confirm that the active ingredient of this preparation is salicylic acid? Gratefully yours
John Eikelboom MD MSc FRACP FRCPA
Clinical Haematologist
Royal Perth Hospital

Ascal is a combinatium of calciumsalicylic acid and ureum. Throug this combination the salicylic acid, which indeed is the active ingredient, dissolves better in water than salicylic acid. This product is perhaps also available under the name Iromin. (HK)
